We’re fairly certain Steve Jones is the only successful major label talent scout, hit songwriter, hit film music supervisor, hit video director and hit television producer on the planet. If another multi-hyphenate emerges with a similar pedigree emerges our money will still be on Steve.
Writer/Producer/Director/Editor: Steve began his career as a professional musician at age 16, and spent the next dozen years living in buses, touring, & making records such seminal bands like Overkill, The Stepmothers and The Unforgiven for the Elektra, Posh Boy, SST, Bomp & Atlantic labels.
After retiring from performing at age 28 he became a hit songwriter and major label talent scout. He wrote a #1 single for the rock band Asia, helped launch Hollywood Records for Disney as Director of A&R, working with acts like Queen and Dr. Dre, before moving laterally into film/TV working in film music supervision on films like “Wayne’s World,” “The Mighty Ducks,” “Encino Man,” and “Blast From the Past.” After four years at the Mouse, he did A&R for Sony Music before moving into directing & producing music videos and managing bands (including platinum swing-punk act: the Cherry Poppin Daddies).
He’s created an expansive career in TV ranging from directing rock docs for MTV networks, creating/producing hit properties for networks like Discovery, History, Showtime and NBC, (including “Airplane Repo,” “Pitchmen,” and “Car Matchmaker”), and helping to launch the Planet Green channel for Discovery. He also helped build a television division for Bodog, and created branded entertainments for high profile clients like Bravo, Best Buy, Disney, and Purina. As a showrunner, Jones has shot everywhere from the Arctic Circle to the Amazon rainforest and has worked with everyone from Johnny Rotten to Jerry Seinfeld.
